She doesn't know what day it is
Oblivious to all
Her childlike squeels pierce the air
To spectres in the hall
Somewhere nearing middle age
Still living with her mother
She's heard throughout the neighborhood
Delighting in 'no other'
I haven't crossed the street, as yet
To meet them, though I should
She waves and sings, out on her porch
To passers by, that could
It doesn't seem too lonely
The world inwhich she lives
Filled with fancy, in her mind
That childhood often gives
The sadness is, she'll never know
The world, like me or you
But then...perhjaps she's lucky
Because she hasn't got a clue

thank you, for all of your wonderful comments. i like the word 'challenged' much better. each person, created on this planet, has a wonderful and important purpose. just because they don't think, or act, or look like us...why should they be considered any less. my heart aches, for those who have the extra challenge to be 'special' in such a world. but it also has given me more room to love and appreciate the differences we all possess.
my hugs and love to all of you.

Excellent Krissy ,and you are right ,she will GO there.

I guess I'm feeling a little emotional, because this actually brought me to tears. Krissy, I have a handicapped son, and although I know he is assured of a place in heaven... sometimes it's just nice to hear others say it.
Krissy,
This one hit close to
home for me as well...
My father was a deaf/mute, and suffered
with dementia...
Yet he was always laughing, and made many
of us laugh right along
with him....
My father was my pride
and joy....:)
I feel that those who
are physically or mentally challenged have
something special that
many of us don't have..
Which is peace and happiness with who they
are...
So in a sense, it kind
of makes us the handicapped ones...
Great write my friend..
It would be beautiful indeed if we could all see the world through her eyes.

Dearest sister,
your inner beauty shines so strong as always..! Such a compassionate soul you are.And to the father we all return at the moment of light..That father all loves us just the same on earth as in heaven.
I love you sis,

You are so right in this Krissy. People who are mentally challenged see the world in a different sort of light. They enjoy the world in a different way which we cannot.
This reminds me of a farmer who had ended his own daughter's life just because HE THOUGHT she was suffering. I was totally against what HE THOUGHT. How could he thinks for his daughter?
People who are mentally-challenged or handicapped are very special people. Some gifts are given to them by God. By given them time and patience, almost always we can discover that they do in some ways possess very special talents.
Just my humble opinion.
