No One Will Know

Poem Artwork

When I Am Gone
By La Belle Rouge

when i am gone
no one will care how i felt
no one will know whom i loved
or what i sacrificed for others
no one will think my thoughts
nor cry my tears

when i am gone
it won’t matter anymore
all the pain and loneliness
i'll disappear quietly
leaving behind a handful
who will cry

when i am gone
my voice will be silenced
and my pen will be stilled
no one will ever hear my cries
the dead only speak in memories
or written words

when i am gone
my poetry will still roam
up and down long lost highways
through chambers of beating hearts
into the thoughts of the few
who find it

when i am gone
some will smile in memory
others will perhaps frown
i'll leave a legacy of words
wrapped in love that lives on
when i am gone

Yes, I will shed a tear and smile over the words you have written that remain after you are gone. But don't go anywhere too soon, hear? I feel like I am at a wake and someone for got the tippin' bottle. My hanky is sure wet. Oh La Belle don't you go anywhere. I've just discovered you and your words. What a woman you are! Hugs. Liz

This is a hearbreaking write, La Belle. First of all, you will not be gone for many moons, for many walks down alphabet lane! Second of all, when the time comes, you will leave behind many who cared for you, who loved you, who needed you. Your words are your legacy, dear friend. They shall live on in perpetuity. This is a classic poem....and while it brought tears to my eyes, I loved it. Lydia

Actually, I don't think that first stanza is true at all -- but you have your days I see. Still, I'm one of the few around here who actually "cherishes" books. This internet is so impersonal. Your a real poet for sure. Have a nice week.

Ma petit grande coeur:
When you are gone your poetry will roam inside the hearts of all those that read your unforgetable words.
And we will whisper to the wind to take our thoughts to you.
But what I am saying? you will never ever be gone!

This is a profound write Belle and in its sadness it's hauntingly beautiful. While attending a memorial service for a very dear friend I overheard someone say, "Just think, in a week or two her family will be watching TV, baking cookies, and laughing again." Truer words were never spoken. Perhaps through our poetry some of us will be remembered. Then again, does it really matter?

Bittersweet, yet who knows how many will read any of our words, but only if we write them - they just may.

Belle, a heart-felt write, so well done, and I think many of us ask that same question.

I don't know about anyone else that regularly reads here at AD, but when writers use a light shade of type, it becomes difficult to read. Guess I'm losing my eyesight, but I do take much pleasure from your pen.

Thanks,
Dan

Belle,
You aren't going anywhere for a very long time. I insist!
I can feel your passionate embrace of life here. Tis a good piece of writing for sure!

Belle,

When we do depart this life, and we all will, the last memories of us as a person will also depart with our grandchildrens memories of us. But the words we write will endure, hopefully to inspire some future reader to know that a person/poet/writer can live on through their words, or deeds. And if by come chance, I can inspire one person, or make someone feel the love I have put into my poetry, then it may have well been worth all these soul wrenching words I have written....someday.

Poignant work, Belle. We poets are a rare breed. We bleed our souls into public awareness in hopes that our words will continue to live and touch future souls. Wonderfully written. Shakespeare had similar thoughts, I have no doubt. And his words live all these hundreds of years after he thought: "When I Am Gone?"

The words took my breath away. These are thoughts some of us feel but are afraid to speak out loud. There is music to be found in these haunting and touching words. Beautiful.

Fabulous art to accompany the bittersweet tenderness of your words, Belle. Your sentiments make me think of the beauty of the last clinging petal of a full-blown rose, clinging by no more than the breath of a sigh, and of the opulence her colour and form has graced us with. Sultry and moody, this fits with the final rays of summer sunshine flooding my heart and mind today, preparing my soul for change. Think we can all relate to this one, Darlin. When the wind turns, so then do we perhaps also think about changes of direction. Classic poetry in your own inimitable voice. The one that of course will always linger in the halls and corridors of our hearts and minds. Lovely, Belle, thank you. Kate xx

...and susch is the legacy of all writers, amateur or professional, good or bad, of any genre...we leave our words to mellow with age as a testament to our lifes...you would be sadly missed by your peers here at the den that is for sure.
