you are a shoulder
that has not failed me
a heart more tender
than you want to allow
somehow when you say
“lean on me,” I can
your tight distant hug
sent with sincerity
is real enough to give
me rest from cruel cares
cold? no never, when
warmth is a panacea
and words are displaced
by deeds of kindness
you are a strong shoulder
and I am a soft kiss
on extended fingertips
always, when you reach
for a bit of human comfort
in the long lonely night
We need that shoulder even from long distances to lean on when we are down, depressed, sad, lonely, and otherwise distraught. I loved reading this La Belle because it is a soft and caring poem from deep in your heart. Thank you for sharing.
