under the oak we sat and spoke
of former days and ways
of when slumbered love awoke
and how in two hearts it lays
unchanging through the circling years
undisturbed through countless tears
under the oak, as in days of old,
the world seems so far away
secret whispers yet untold
wait for the dawn of new day
fingers entwined so tenderly
eyes share a timeless embrace
too late to bemoan the you, the me
we wait to see our creator’s face
contented to sit and converse a while
warmed by a touch and a cherished smile
Beautiful unravelling of sentiment in lines that are full of grace, charm and a flowing lightness of touch. This speaks of a deep, soulish affection in a relationship that "just is": nothing can be added to it and nothing taken away through the passage of time or scale of distance. It forever endures without change and without the need for maintenance, other than that knowing "cherished smile". As always, a pleasure to the heart and mind, Belle, and easy on the eye. xx
