Musical Man

Today I met
a musical man
a man
with a magical flute.

Smooth dark wood
the notes they flew
with every step he took.

One minute a man
in a forest deep
tree peepers
and rippling water.

Then there on the trail
a stalker who hunts
the notes
witness the slaughter.

A gypsy lady
in flowing skirts
round the campfire
on a moonless night.

An Irish lass
with auburn hair
dancing through
fields of flowers.

Images formed
when I closed my eyes
and I felt every note
he played.

A shame
he put them all
in a leather bag
and locked them
tight away.
