Welcome to my disabled world. :(

i'm sitting right in front of you
but you choose to ignore
you roll your eyes away from me
look at me    i implore
i raise my hands and scream real loud
why won't you look at me
you do not hear me in the crowd
                                 guess my voice is off-key
i'm hidden from view by my scars
i am a ghostly thing
i don't show up on your radar
a lonely song i sing
the world revolves i'm not in it
                                  invisibility
                                  i'm degraded i'm unfit
                                  by disability
because we do not act the same
i am called retarded
i did not ask for  hurtful names
see the tears you started
i see the world and it is dark
                                   i have no guiding light
my eyes have been by blindness marked
                                   i don't deserve that right
crippled in body, not in mind
and i have feelings too
i ask must i be left behind
your feelings are see through
don't talk to her leave her alone
                                   mommy what's wrong with her
                                   by ignorance once more disowned
                                   how much can i endure
what's it like to be disabled
let me enlighten you
i didn't ask to be labeled
i
am
a
person
too

I like the form of this poem; I can visualize the pendulum swing between emotions of anger and sadness. And, while you may be physically disabled, your heart and soul are not merely whole, but perfect.

(((Karla)))

This is a wonderful write, you have captured the innermost thought/feelings many people with disability often face in their daily lives as they struggle to make a place for themselves in a world NOT geared for them or their specific special needs! May people learn to accept those who are NOT like them, and may they realize that they too can become disabled when they least expect it! NOBODY is immune to disability; it can happen to ANYONE at ANY TIME! BRAVA for a powerful poem that speaks volumes; a MUCH needed write! BRAVA!

(((HUGS))) and much love, your twin, Karen Lynn. :(
