And so, I write.

Poem Artwork

"UGLY DAY"
~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~
Why can't I write of roses
Without thinking of the thorns
Why can't I write of sunshine
Without thinking of the storms

Why can't I write of beauty
When I have an ugly day
Why can't I write of Heaven
When I don't know how to pray

Why can't I write of romance
When there is none to be found
Why can't I write of courage
When fear drives me underground

And why can't I write of peace
When there's a war going on
Why can't I write of good news
When to horror I am drawn

Why can't I write of roses
Without thinking of the thorns...
~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~

Dearest Karla,

Why indeed ... these are the questions I also ask myself, and I too do not have an answer, only that it makes for unique heartfelt poetry, and reaches in and touches the soul, beautifully written, and very wise Karla... it will pass :)

Warm hugs

I get confused by the difference between Realists and Romantics. I have to admit that I think that the bi-polar thingy goes with being a full-blooded Romantic - because, notwithstanding being able to see everything from all directions, taking in the bad as well as the good, intrinsically you know that you will come down in the end in favour of optimism, that there will ALWAYS be a light at the end of the tunnel and that this is just a shadow you are passing through on the way. Hope springs eternal, moment by moment, and there can be no mountaintop without the valleys. Like me, Karla, I am convinced you would not forego the splendour of that wide open space and fantastic view because there way to get there is by the road through the valley?! Keep looking ahead and upwards and, step by step, the progress is made. It's all part of the journey - which, ultimately, is so much greater than the ultimate destination, perhaps! Keep at it! LOL Kate xx

Good poem, Karla. Answer: You're a realist. Try a Marx Bros. movie and laugh your a** off, then see what you write. ;-) ~~Nordette

The blessing of being a writer is that we GET to write about the roses AND the thorns, so it is therapy for all us crazy writers:) I have ugly days too sometimes, and it seems whenever I write about them, I start to feel better immediately. It is a good balance to be able to see both dark and light and balance them through the written word.

(((Karla)))

Wow, your muse has really taken off in some interesting directions! Where DO you get these things to write about?? So powerful, and so full of raw emotion; excellent job on this! BRAVA!
