When I pen a poem, a fragment or phrase (rarely an entire write) will come to me. Today's was

"I sat down to write a poem."

Sometimes, the entire poem will gel; other times, I have to work with it (and sometimes it won't come at all).

Today was a good day. :-) This is the result. It does not necessarily express how I feel about writing. :-) (Although there are times...especially when I read y'all's poetry...JAYS!) LOL

Poem Artwork

"I WANTED TO"

I sat down to write a poem.
I wanted to write something
brilliant and educational,
but what I wrote sounded dumb.

I sat down to write a poem.
I wanted to write something
that held great beauty and meaning,
but the words came out ugly.

I sat down to write a poem.
I wanted to write something
that would have touched the face of God,
but my words were not worthy.

I sat down to write a poem.
I wanted to write something
that would forever change the world,
but the words were resistant.

I sat down to write a poem.
I wanted to write something
that would have brought peace to the land,
but my words started a war.

I sat down to write a poem.
I wanted to write something
to clear up any confusion,
but the words got in the way.

I sat down to write a poem.
I wanted to write something
that would forever change the world
but my words were resistant.

I sat down to write a poem.
I wanted to write something
but have forgotten what it was...
the words were not important.

Wow! Fantastic portrayal of the way any type of artistic expression can be re- or misinterpreted. No reason to stop trying, though!

Very good and very true... we just need to go with the first flow, no editing, just go... then... it flows...

Sis, this is very true of most of us who write (giggles). Sometimes the words just flow, sometimes the words jut glow and seem to pen themselves, sometime they are impoosible words, without reason or rhyme, and this too can make for good writing. I have had writer's block a lot of tiems, and then I just sit back, take a little nap, and start fresh when I wake up. This is a very good poem of truth and struggle. May the Lord be with you always, and at your side constantly. With much love, peace, & (((HUGS))), Barbie

Hell, It's the 13th, but not Friday, and nothing comes out right on a 13th. Try again on another day..... and celebrate. I enjoyed your words - composed for all your fellow bumpkins who sit down and try, and try, and try some more. Ain't we a bunch of wierdoits? - Your loyal fan - Bill

We all have moments like this, Karla. Sometimes I think it is just best to put the poem to bed and come back to it later. You are a fine writer, Karla, if you don't write one today, the world won't stop revolving. Tomorrow you will probably pen a masterpiece.
Take care,
Sherry

I think that you did yourself proud on this one. Sometimes I do find myself wondering just what effect my poems have on people. I posted a poem Violets In The Snow on a site and got a nasty email telling me to stop writing and that I had no right to post anything anywhere. That does bug me but then I realize the person has not really accomplished anything. But we do write things sometimes that we look at and say did I really write that. However your works never cease to be nothing short of good.

You could have said. Men are braver than women.
Ok, ok, ok, We know it's not true, but if it were it would change the world.

Or

My boy friends pregnant.
That could work.

But if you told the truth..

Ed K is Jack the Ripper.

WOW, what a great end to the mystery, you would have solved...

(((Karla)))

Don't EVER doubt your capabilities as a writer. We all have our own unique style, and I happen to think you are worthy to be published or read! You are a dynamic poet who writes deep from the heart and soul, and I am honored to read your poems! You continue to get better and better, and you shouldn't be so hard on yourself! You are one of the best here, and more people should read your works of art! That is exactly what your poems are!! and you exude with talent; don't EVER think otherwise!! BRAVA!!

(((HUGS))) and much love, your twin (and biggest fan!), karen lynn. :D
