There is an ironed look to the clouds which press down in uneven layers overhead; the sea is grey-blue restlessness, tossing to-and-fro in frenetic agitation, stirred by an off-shore force greater than itself; beaches are empty, devoid of life; nothing moves but the wind and horizontal rain ... occasional media trucks pass by, carrying reporters who bring the hurricanes right into our living rooms, live and in color. And those who have stayed behind, by choice or design, wait to see what the storm is capable of doing ... we won't have long to wait. What we will see will break our heart; life as we once knew it is destroyed by the winds of change.
Hurricanes and floods are most common of all natural disasters and feature prominently in mythology of people on every continent. The word hurricane comes from Mesoamerican myth. It is amazing to me that the media presents the disasters in a rating of the week newscast. People need to be reading history and mythology books where it describes these natural disasters. This is nothing new! The story has been told in Greek Poseidon, Japanese Susano, Jewish and Christian traditions, the most famous flood narrative, the Biblical story of Noah, The Greek myth of Deucalion, the Indian myth Manu, the Aboriginal mythologies, the Chinese storm myths. When one of these unfortunate disasters strike, I don't tune in to the media, I pick up a book and read about the same thing that happened in the Old World. If more people would do this, we would have more knowledge as to why all of this is happening, and it is not the curse of God or the Goddess. It is a natural pattern of the earth we live on. If only people would wake up and tune out the media!

In a post-coup America, an Illinois farm boy is drawn into the resistance by his brother's death. Captured, he is given a choice: betray his friends, or the girl he loves will be lobotomized.
