Shame, how the Veterans are being treated...reminds me of Vietnam.
You laugh, bitterly; anger lingering in the throat like fur, as you question who the real enemy is - is it them? You?? Does anyone give a damn as you watch buddies cut down by the sharpened swords of insurgents seeking your head on a plate? Does anyone hear the screams of !!outrage!! as the media calls you terrorist, camouflaged to stand out like a sore thumb? Does no one come to your defense as you battle to the edge of sanity and life, a terrible, honorable cost? Don't cry, Warrior: you are in my heart and prayer, constantly. Know your sacrifice is worth my freedom, and I am grateful.
Karla, Thank you for putting into perfect words, the outrage, which lies, so embedded in my heart! My brother was spit on, coming home from Nam...now these precious men and women rarely get a thank you.
Hmmm...if we don't stop it there, it could turn.....and come back to our shore, again. Will these same Valiant Warriors be welcomed THEN?
I has dinner with a couple of my dearest friend. they have a two year old son. The father/husband said..."I'd go to Iran. I want to go. I want to let the fire in me respond to the indignity the Iraqis have caused and I want to fight for my great grand father, my grandfather and father and I want to fight for the freedom for my small son and if I were to die then I died doing what all my forefather's died for and my son and his son would die for if they have a chioce. One day...they may not have that priveledge."
It IS all about having a great country, freedom and harmony.
I learned a lot about my friends and what they believe in and why we are free and the cost of that freedom. I am very proud of this family tonight.

My son-in-law returned from Irag almost a year ago.. whole? Perhsps phyxically but emotionally.. no. I've learned and seen much in the past year.. some has not been pretty. Keep saying it, Karla!

I feel Vetrans have always received the unfair act on them and I am so glad you penned this poem.....
Karla I agree this is sickening, they are fighting to defend our country, and they are being treated as if they are nothing more than a clump of dirt to be kicked around, I for one respect our soldiers, and will support them in anyway I can.

My prayers and gratitude have been answered two fold as two of mine have gone to war twice and returned whole. I pray for mine and all in harms way and am pained by those who have made the ultimate sacrifice. I hate the war but not our childen who are fighting for the luxury of dissent I enjoy. We need to pray for them. God performs some awesome miracles in times of war. We can pray that He will do it for these warriors, and that they will recognize His hand and feel His presence.

It is something that I have never understood - why veterans are treated with such aloofness, and often contempt. If these radical opinionists were put into a similar scenario, (war) they would not be so outspoken against those who sacrifice for their country and our freedoms.
We have to fight; that is what the military teaches its soldiers, and to not be able to fight back only makes us sitting ducks. Hard hitting, sobering reminder; thanks for penning this powerful wake-up call! Very well done; brava!
