Dedicated to those hardy souls who make the Arctic Circle their home. I wish I could be there, with you...
Two Poems, "The Great White Way" (c) 2006, Karla Dorman.
THAW
Fur-side in, we step out into the Light. Who cares if it's twenty below, it's the first time we've seen the sun! Long Dark, over; blood that was frozen moves again; fingers cramped, thaw. And so, we bloom under Arctic skies, covering the ice with Spring. Flowers are what we are. (10/5)
IDITAROD
Silent, except for the passage of time and dogs running the sled beneath nighttime skies. The breath turns
solid in my nose; the cold, a living thing. We will have to find warmth and shelter, soon. It's lonely
here in the far North, with only stars and Aurora along to keep us company. That's how it
is on the Iditarod Trail, silent moments, as well as those moments of panic. I wouldn't
trade my life for anything; the Outsiders can have their easy life; I have f r e e d o m! And my dogs. (10/6)

This is lovely poetry, Karla!
Beautifully written!
I can understand why you might want some "cooling off" from the Texas heat, Karla. Let us hope the north can keep its climate the way it was meant to be... ...cold. Love and peace,

Wondrful poems and bring back wonderful memories, I travelled the high arctic in my youth as a crewmember aboard the Canadian icebreaker CCGS Labrador. It was a place where you knew you and your life was just a fleeting moment in the vast majesty of this world.

Very well written poetry Karla and a powerful frontier they are living in...
Brrrrr, excellent write Karla and so realistic both picture and verse. the quiet appeals to me but not the cold. PLB&G for caring and sharing. <Mikii>
Extremely cold weather is NOT good for aching bones and such, so living there for you and Karen may not be such a great idea...but I would live there too, given the chance...Ed & Rufuz (w00f)
