God bless the nurses, who took wonderful care of Karen when she was in the hospital.
This is one I wrote the day she had her tumor removal/colostomy.
Unease; betrayed by a body gone horribly wrong; masked buzzards keep watch; those who think they know the answers rely on expensive machines to do the work for them. I am at their mercy. The light of day blinks out as I go under..........................and the surgeon vanishes. I do not see him again. What I see when I do wake up is nurses, those angels wearing white, hovering; always near; they help my sick body turn like butter in their arms. I rest on shots of painkiller and in the knowledge that I am finally in a safe place; I can sleep now, now that I'm in their hands.
This is so touching, Karla! They are as angels and this is such a lovely way to pay tribute to their care. Well done and I believe you should send a copy of this to the hospital floor Karen was on. They get far too little appreciation as it is and this would touch them deeply.

Yes many have survived because of the nurses and they make our stay more comfortable. Glad to here that she is okay :-)
Excellent tribute to the Nurses. They are the ones who bring us back to health. Doctors do their work, but it is the nurse who keeps watch over us like the angels they truly are and makes sure that all of our needs are met.

Nurses are a very special breed, they if good ones, listen, comfort, pray un awares for you. They risk catching fatal diseases and a broken heart if they become close to you. They have hidden wings known to God. I am also thankful for the winged angelicv nurses that took careful care of sweet Karen. Thank you for posting this poem dedicated to them in white.

I do hope that your sister is doing better. This piece shares the fear of illness and the thankfulness of those that take of us. Little thanks they get for giving us the small comforts when we are at our weakest. Nicely done Karla!
Accurate details, Karla. How well I remember my own surgery and the time spent in the recovery room. Yes, those nurses in white are angels of mercy...to be greatly appreciated. Great write!

Karla, I hope this is not deemed insensitive to say, but I think this life-shattering/changing experience is taking your work to new levels and is producing some of your finest work. I know the price is too step and one not chosen to be paid, but at least therein is a silver lining, perhaps. Your every "hospital" write has me on the edge of my seat and I am constantly amazed by how your collect your thoughts in such potent ways at the time of this dire confusion and emotional turmoil. I have NEVER been to write of my own experiences in this way. I salute you, and your imagery here is surgical. May the Lord continue to bless you with strength and resource and Karen with grace and healing. You make an amazing pair and a living testimony to life, love, faith and friendship. OH this is beautiful...I only had the colonoscopy this summer and I felt much safer when I awoke from the test with the caring nurses gathered around, only my nurses were wearing Pooh scrubs...nice tribute to those nurses who care for us when we are sick...I just had a routine checkup, turned out okay...a little divertickulitus...hope I spelled that one okay...but anyway great tribute and so glad that you are back at the den...missed you and thankful you are recovering and going to be okay, prayer does change things, doesn't it. Enjoyed this one much.
