Valentine's Day, Massacr'd

I want'd to write a
poem about love, but
Winter tighten'd its grip,
strangling Spring right out of
the forecast, except in
the storm-weary South.  The
killing season is here:
when it finally ends,
how many will have died?
And then, storms pump'd up on
El Nino's steroids will
muscle their way across
the Plains and the Midwest,
striking terror into
hearts that fear wind and rain:
the abuse continues.

I guess many are the reasons why Valentine visits us with mixed messages and blessings, Karla. But these days, the capricious weather seems to be a new and persistent harbinger of couched menace, one way or another, who pays little attention to the day, the place or the people. Beat him at his own game and write yourself love-letters in as many weather rhymes as you can imagine! :)) Stay sunny-side up.... LOL K xx

As long as we continue to abuse Mother Earth, she has no choice but to react. Unfortunately, it took Hurricane Katrina, a number of other ongoing weather related catastrophes, as well as a melting polar ice cap for the world to realize that global warming isn't just overdramatized prattling by Greenpeace. I pray it isn't too late to turn some of it back around. This is a plaintive and powerful write Karla my friend. Happy Valentine's Day! Blessings and Hugs, Michelle

My dear Karla...what can I say to cheer you up? The world is in a tailspin for sure. Keep your faith...look up...don't worry. Won't do you any good anyway...only cause more wrinkles. :)

God Bless
Much love
Lena

There certainly has been some strange and severe weather this year that is for sure, Karla. We got enough snow here to close the schools all day today and pretty much put everything on slo-mo. It is now melting off quite nicely, especially after I shoveled and tossed down some melt, but this morning it was looking a whole lot like somewhere other than Albuquerque. I couldn't find that Valentine's Day write either, Karla. Usually I can whip up a romance poem in a matter of a couple minutes, but not today. I guess the icy and snow got in the way of a warm romantic write. Kickin' poem!
Take care,
Sherry

You sure are right about El Nino's steroids...in the last 48 hrs we have been in a blizzard, dumping 22 inches of show and more in on the way tomorrow...don't know if we will ever dig out
love your poem
love and peace, Carole

Clear and strong message within these lines...much sadness across the land, with the storms, and the rampage killings, and if you've read my blog today...I have a student in my classroom, a small seven year old boy who's step father abducted his two younger brothers Monday and they haven't been seen since...such a sad situation, much going on in the world, makes us want to wrap our arms around our family and hold on tight! Great and powerful write my friend.
Blessings,
Joyce Bowling

Very strong message Karla. We do need to remember and keep our men and women in service to pray constantly for them. Hope you have a nice Valentine's Day.

Good write but we cannot lose hope or the sight of what Valentines is all about...it is a time of love for lovers, for family, for friends and for ourselfs. We must keep our hearts warm with those thoughts and the winter and poor weather will soon enough fade into a memory.

It's very colf here today with wind at 30-40 mph. The mean temperature is low 20's. It just is time to stay in and enjoy Valentine's Day.

This caught my eye--very unique.

We're getting sunshine in Florida, but a tornado ripped inland toward the coast a couple of weeks ago--killed several people.

Old Man Winter truly seems ticked off lately, and his abuse really is pretty bad. And I truly hope the Spring Maiden gets here very soon.
