... with the crush of wounded arriving on litters skinned in pain and old blood, they linger on hospital wards that are collapsing around them. Too bad the government forgot their promise to take care of the veterans who have no choice but accept substandard care, who battle not on foreign shores but at home. This is our secret shame ...

Indeed shameful, Karla. But it will remain thus until every man and woman in this country stand up and says, ENOUGH !!!

I think we may have more secret shames, but the one you are referring to, there is no reason or excuse for. The only thing our leaders need to do, is shut up and fix the problem. There needs to be no finger pointing, or anything else, just fix the problems. They can't tell me they didn't know about this to begin with. Somebody from the White House, is always and forever being filmed while talking to the 'injured soldiers' at Walter Reed, so if they've been there, they knew. There's no way they couldn't have known. All that deterioration, didn't happen overnight and it wasn't just one man's plunders that caused it..every president for many years in a row, is responsible for it, and they all need to get in line to have their arses kicked. But in the mean time..just fix it!

Thank you, Karla, with your caring words and the breaking news from the media, thank God, it is no secret any longer -- we must make those changes as a society. How sad it had to come to this.

Sad but true too often, an efective write that sends an "in your face" message, not only to applaud the ones who are fighting, buried with grace the ones who have died but treat our veterans with the honour and dignity they deserve.
And it has been, for far too long a time, Karla. And although all these so called 'new investigations' are now underway, I truly wonder how much will really change.
When things were going many medals were bestowed, when things went wrong...a Purple Heart, Honorable Discharge and go somewhere else to get repaired. Scandinavia, skin drafs, reconstruction surgery, new name, peace.
In God we trust.

Right on the money! This should not be! Our veterans deserve so much more than they are given. I think our government has failed our fathers, son, brothers, daughters, sisters, aunts, uncles in a most horrendous way.

This makes me sick, and so does the fact that people are out cutting down our military men and women without even realizing or caring that w/out the fight, they would not have the freedom to do so, I salute you for your service to our country

Unfortunately, this really is no secret and I truly doubt if they forgot...I believe they had no prior intentions, yeah, yeah, yeah...they mean well, but they soon forget after the uniforms hang in the closet.
I don't think there is even ONE American who would vote against giving our servicemen whatever it takes, to have peace in knowing, to have a place to receive the best of the best in their medical care!
It's the least we can do!

More and worth will keep marching THE PUBLIC MARCH OF SHAME until we say "NO" to the building of the HOUSE OF SHAME. I hope that we can stand to say NO before we become the GREATEST SLAVEYARD of The New World.

This is the God's honest truth. Out congressmen, our lawmakers, our president...all have succumbed to apathy. Come election time, I hope every American votes against those who failed our Patriots and us.

First of all, thank you for your service in the USAF. :) Our country is a better place because of men and women who choose to defend our shores from enemies, foreign and domestic.
Secondly, it is a travesty when we care more about what happens to those who enter our country illegally than the needs of our injured veterans (ALL veterans, really), our elderly, our poor, or our disabled. Secret shame is RIGHT, is SPOT ON. A bold, powerful, no-holds-barred indictment for change. EXCELLENT! BRAVA!

You are so right, Karla. Every veteran, no matter how they serve or if they've been in a war, deserves every break this country offers, and give so freely to illegals. Those folks give up their lives so we have our freedoms. Let's hope all this saber rattling ends up being some reforms for a pitiful performance so far.
