A rant ...

i
know why
i write but
the question is
this:  why do  i write

why?

why??

why???

o,
i know
i'm whining
again; it's my
right as a writer

(this
job i
wouln't wish
on my best friend
or worst enemy)

i
punish
myself with
the pen and words:
why do i do this

why?

why??

why???

i
know why
i write but
the answer is
this: because i ... do

(i
must like
pain ... like the
feeling of the
whip -- beat me again)

no
i write
because i
have to ... like to ...
ordinarily ...

there

are

times ......

(c) 2007, Karla Dorman (5/14)

Karla, Writing is an inspiration; it liberates the mind; allowing it freedom to express itself. I don't feel writing should be confined to rules or a particular format and style. You write because your thoughts will torment you until you jot them down. What you write is wonderful. Don't stop to analyze why you write, just write. Enjoy the process ... plus you're good at it. :)

Love, Lena

I guess we are all in this together, but when we get the final word on the poem or story...it sure does feel good! Keep writing my friend, we'll keep reading, we'll keep writing and you can continue to read, and we'll all suffer together! Enjoyed this so much, this is one of the sides of the life of a writer that many do not see! Just as a teacher, many people actually think we sit around all day at our desks while the kids do all the work, they don't realize that we are on our feet all day working with children on many different levels of learning...while also staying late and grading papers and making new lesson plans...why do I do this, the same reason we both love writing...it's in our blood, heart and souls! Write on dear friend!

Singers sing because they are singers;Actors and Actresses act because that is what they do. Writers write because they are writers.
And all suffer the same, from time to time, but we continue the journey laid out before us.
Write Karla write!

Simple, yet it rings of such truths. Why do you write? You write because God has willed it. Great!

That is the right of the writer, to express, to live the life on the parchment, and the ink well never runs dry, nor does the quill wither, so long as the belief remains.
So rant till your hearts content..and TY dearest one for your love too.

Oh, Karla, this is just a touching piece of writing...again, you've touched my soul. I love the reasons for writing...I'm one of those asking the same question. I truly liked this poem!

dear lady...you write for the same reason you breathe...it is part of your life, what makes you, you. Like you I have had these thoughts from time to time...it always comes back to a basic fact...when all is said and done I cannot imagine my life without writing. Methinks you are the same.

Writing can be a vehicle to explore all the anomalies and joys of the human condition. It can also be, at times, a cathartic, emotionally and physically, to rid the mind and soul of the clutter and poisons that build up surviving in a corrupt and fallen world.

Pulling weeds takes effort and the ground is torn up. Planting flowers takes as much energy, but it is a gentler process that replenishes what has been corrupted. Writing is both!

BRAVA!

Writing is not for the faint of heart and I know that every writer on this block suffers the same dilemma. Good write, so now, go write something else.

You may whine, Karla, but you have a right to. Writing is a fickle business, and I know that as well as you do. You write because you HAVE to; if you coudln't, you'd go crazy. I know I would. Maybe you already feel this way; I don't kow...An excellent rant, rant on, baby girl; I hear ya!

(((HUGS))) and much love, your twin sister, Karen Lynn. :(

I like what Mr. Ed said below: Right on! And, Write On! I agrre; the den would be a much sadder place without your poetry!
