An innocent in the enemy's camp, a mere child in a grown-up man's world of hurt: the medics have landed, to take back what Death came to steal. Death ain't seen nothin' like a Mama who'll lay down her life for her brave little soldier or doctors on the front lines of battle, of nurses, elements of shock and awe, the corpsmen who will step past the edge, who'll not give up the fight.
Karla, as a vet I have many criticisms of the military that surface from time to time in my writing. One grounding elemement is a lonely Soldier's death. This is the ultimate sacrifice for an individual in service of what they believe in and one of the few things that I continue to keep my respect in tact for. Thank you for a well needed poem. - HB

Every one of the battlefield Medics past present and future should be awarded with the Congressional Medal of Honor, for put their lives on harm's way, disregard for their own safety under fire, and over all for undefatigable wrestling with death for the wounded soldier and never giving up.
Karla, this is a great tribute to those guys that saved my life a couple of times.
