? Texas? Asked myself that twenty-
eight years ago. 1980. Living in
Utah at the time; Texas was having
its worst heat wave, ever. 69 days
over one hundred, 42 consecutive:
every day on the news, they would
announce how many had died ...
looked at my brother, told him, "I
will NEVer live in Texas." Fast
forward three years: joined the Air
Force. On my dream sheet, they
asked where I wanted to be
stationed: Alaska. Alaska. Alaska.
Northern Japan. Alaska. Figured
Basic (in San Antonio), six weeks
long; advanced schooling, in Wichita
Falls, another six, and then I'd be on
my way to the Great Land. Twenty-
five years later, here I am, still in the
Southern Great Plains: that's why
Texas, where folk are friendly, where
the sky stretches forever, where sun
and storm give people something to
talk about: maybe, one day, Alaska.
'Til then, have bloomed where planted.

Soooooo, that's why Texas???? Here I thought you loved the open plains, the cows, and the inspiration you received from the storms around here, I.E. "The Storm Spinner" Gotta love it huh.......

Karla, Sweetie, you do seem to have somehow adapted to the raging storms, and that endless sky, of Armadillo-Land. Alaska? Not now -- it's too cold up there right now. Maybe next summer ... :-)
it's fabulous reading round these personal geographies and narratives and hearing everyone's "thoughts of home"! It's funny how life goes, how these "unintentional" phases become permanent... and no wonder, if the natives are friendly and you find your roots sinking deep into nurturing soil. You bloom pretty darn good where planted, girly... storms an' all.... !! xx

Yep been there myself, just driving though
Saw something I never seen before
Where I am from, I was used to see Raccons
and opposums for road kills, in Texas I saw cattles for road kill
you folk there sure do everything "big"
Well, I have traveled through a lot of the country, and Texans are my favorite people. So it is no wonder you live in Texas, Karla. You epitomize Texan hospitality. ~ Sara

Just kidding! I do love the folk. Nice and determined farmers. I'm down that way a few times a year. Maybe we need to hook up for a toddie or two :-)

Everywhere always seems better than where we are when things aren't great...then we go to where we think it's greener...and guess what.. no place like home.... but... as a person who has lived all over the map...I never thought anyplace would replace my precious Texas..and I kept finding the beauty of America...one place after another...yet...I'd compare to home...the food, the hospitality, the climate, the people... and I'd still ache to go home (not just to visit)... then I went home 2 yrs ago...to live again...and found...that...Texas is in my heart..in my spirit, but no longer my home...altho I'll never stop loving and standing up for beautiful Texas... so...we all just go and find "home" where the "heart" is... Cool writing as usual.. lindalaw
Yes it is true, I have also travelled a lot but still here I am living in the same Country, Province, and town I was born and raised in and as they say..."there is no place like home"
