... (But she looks so normal!) ....

Poem Artwork

Hair:  a lady's crowning glory,
belonging on the head, not in
the hand, strands yanked in a
moment of boredom.  Don't
realize I'm doing it:  touching,
patting, pulling, pulling, pulling
until the pain shocks me into

awareness:  what the --?  Why
do I do this?  Doesn't happen
all the time; just sometimes.
Cut my hair short to resist
temptation:  doesn't always
work.  The bald spots are an
embarrassment.  What was

thought to be pyschological
may be medical, instead, kind
of like Tourette's:  the inability
to keep hands off.  (But she
looks so normal!)  Feel ugly --
want to hide in shame.  Want
to stop it but don't know how ...

Karla,
I have a habit of biting my nails. One is terribly disgusting - ripped down the middle. I've had long nails only twice in my life: for my wedding and once years after it. I remember my grandfather saying that a lady should have nails. The first time I grew them was in his honor. It's one of the things I hope to correct this year. Keep the faith! Love and Hugs,
Sheila

Your hair looks, full, thick, healty, and attractive. When I was a little girl and wore my hair long, I had a habit of twisting a strand continually on my finger and sometimes running it across my lips. "I think" it was related to "thinking" since it occurred mostly when I sat in a classroom. I lost the habit somewhere along the way.

if habits were easy to break, no one would have any -- have you tried, no, no -- well have you tried, no, no -- I have so many nasty little habits I can't help myself break -- so I certainly cannot offer much help to anyone else -- only encouragement -- Happy New Year Karla -- may peace and love be always with you -- JMW

You look fine dear Karla and we all have some kind of nervousreaction to pain and discomfort. I have turned to sitting back with my eyes closed and take deep slow breaths when in pain. Hey it works for me. Thank you for sharing. Happy New Year Karla.

Newfie Hugs are on the way, Rose

Boost your Vitamin E & Biotin might help; as for the compulsive behavior - can't say. We all have some of those nervous behaviors. Going to check out your video on U-tube soon! Miss your clouds...

I thought I would have stopped biting my fingernails how that I'm very near to 60... they look good most of the time, but let stress or boredom set in and it's fingers to the mouth... habits are habits, not what we want, but hey when did you last knock off a convenience store for something to do? See... you are fine! Great poem too, to help me get to know you! Your friend, Kathy

You know, my oldest daughter, when she was very little used to suck her thumb and with the other thumb, stuck it in her hair and twirled her hair around it and then pulled. She did grow up and stopped sucking her thumb, but the habit of twirling her hair around the other thumb, well, that continues. Just the way things are sometimes, but certainly not something to be ashamed of. We all have habits....

Be always safe,
Karen

I guess you know why I am first to reply.
I am bald.
Well a few hairs round the temple and others which are out of sight.
But why is there an obsession in the USA to cover the head and fear baldness in man or woman? Or for that matter accept a face with scars? I'm not a great fan of Gordon Ramsey the chef but he was hounded out o0f LA for his scar face. Get to know the personality. Looks do ot matter as much as we thinkl they do in this celebity culture.
So my baldness shows I am a REAL MAN!
From Liberace to Dr Spock...we all saw the join!
So am I really that ugly?
Well if so,then I hope you don't mind me appreciating your thoughts on AuthorsDen.
Lots of cuddly love
(Yes it's possible without the hedd hair!

I thought I was the only one in the world who did this! Especially when I'm concentrating--especially when writing--anxiety driven possibly. Got a place right up front where there's a little short stubbled patch.

You're just God's lightning rod, you know--all that "wired" sensitivity leads to these gorgeous poems--
