Veterans Affairs Secretary Eric Shinseki confirmed Tuesday the Obama administration is considering a plan to make Veterans pay for treatment of service-connected injuries with private insurance.
Injuries incurred in service to our
country costly enough, without us
being asked to pay for treatment:
takes money, money we can ill
afford, since you don't bail us out
when we're in need. Oh ... you
want us to get insurance. Uhhhh:
forgetting something, we have pre-
existing conditions?!? No one will
insure, unless we pay exhorbitant
fees. Full circle, right back where
we started: living hand to mouth,
running out of money before the
month runs out. After bills, there
is none. Can't afford to eat, let
alone pay for medical care you'd
promised would be free. Shame,
for honoring Veterans like this ...
If only they...or their families (the ones making up the rules for vets) Had to live on what the government gave for their serving our country, then maybe they would offer real help, along with understanding and honor!
Right On, Karla. How much is one individual expected to sacrifice for our country. They stand where none of us would, knowing they could die at any time, they are away from their families, friend and everything familiar. When they do take a bullet for us, we give them second rate care, in third rate medical facilities,and now we expect them to pay for it. where is the America they protected now that they need protection and help. If we aren't willing to pay the price of caring for these men and women, we shouldn't send them to war, better yet, let's not wage war anymore. Then we could pay for the wounded soliers we alread have.
I agree Karla, and thank you for bringing this shame on our veterans to light. I rate this a 10 out of 10.

Brava Karla! Seems a shame that we can't trust what any politician says. I know so many really believed in Obama and are truly worried now. i pray he isn't a total phony. Excellent write, send the whole page to him, he's always saying he reads everyone and won't turn any away. It can't hurt to try, you have some good comments here too.
Ridiculous. We owe veterans that much and more. Things seem to be getting worse. A good indication of this is the talk about insurance costs going sky-high and employers no longer paying a portion. It's the wrong direction to go in. I like how you stay current on the events and work hard to get your voice heard. You so obviously speak for a majority. Wish politicians would wisen up. God forbid they take a pay cut, so we can treat veterans right. It was just announced that some House members got huge raises: 10 - 68 %! Very timely. I guess we know what the stimulus package is really going toward, huh? Keep the faith, Karla. And keep speaking out:)

Well said. It is deplorable the way some people are treated in your once great country. The economic powers that be have bankrupted your country and printing more money just digs a bigger hole. There is only one solution and no one wants to say it let alone write it but it's another world war. For forty years the Nam Veterans have heard that Agent Orange is not the cause of their malady, that they contracted their illness AFTER they were discharged.
Iraq Veterans are been served their home foreclosure papers as the GOP are wasting all the money in a country that don't like us, today, 2009, AFTER the Inauguration speech.
They said that NOW all will be corrected, slowly, but corrected, was it another political con?
It will never happen, Karla. It was only one of many proposals being bandied about. The veteran service organizations will never let it happen, and like most things, someone's proposal - not a law or a regulation - and there are many proposals every day - has been quickly turned by some into a 'scare tactic.'

More people need to speak out about this- it's bad enough we have a president wanting to screw up the country with a broken system of national healthcare like that in other countries- I have one thing to say about my state benefits- i had them within three months of becoming disabled- as for the federal government, I am STILL waiting going on 5 YEARS ON for any disability, and that is who would be running national healthcare??? Keep it-we will end up with 8 beds in a room and dentists who just pull all your teeth like in some places, or some that say your meds are paid for and they still pay like we do-and VETERANS especially should be getting all the benefits they need as you were the ones there when this country needed you- I read this aloud to my Mom and she wanted me to tell you that you should send this to Glenn Beck, lol. I bet, like myself, if relying on the federal government, you will be screwed, having been broke awaiting them these past 5 years, I completely agree with this excellent poem-blessings to you, love, Michelle
The warnings were there but most of us chose to ignore them. I put 10 years in in the '70s and another year in '03 and '04 and now we have to worry about paying for medical insurance? Yeah; changes are coming alright! Obama will be a one term President for sure. Hang in there Karla; better times are ahead.
Ludicrous! I don't agree with this AT all; veterans don't get paid enough now as it is for the sacrifices they made to their country! WE OWE THEM!!!! They should lack for nothing!! Well said; I hear ya!

I don't agree to veterans paying for private insurance. I guess next time when there's a war, Americans will not be so quick to sign up to go to war defend their country. This is a shame and an insult to the veterans. I'm totally against it!!!
Hang in there, a freind of ours was injured in Vietnam and had a lung disease from chemicals...they have refused his claim since the late sixties and now he is living in hog heaven...maybe you will too...love and hugs, Bonnie
A reprehensible slap in the face to all who have served and sacrificed for our great nation...but what more did anyone expect from this administration considering its (his) attitude toward our military...Sad...and an even sadder commentary on his constituency...ignorance at best. I'm so proud to know you Karla. My late husband fought in two wars, was seriously injured in the second one and depended on the Veterans Administration for his medical problems and several hospitalizations and surgeries. There's no way we could have paid for his medical expenses and no company would have insured him because of his pre-existing conditions, just as you say. If this happens the instigator should be impeached. Did you know that unless the veteran is 100% service connected for his disability the widow gets none of the husband's VA pension when he passes away? She spends their married life caring for him and then BAM, income ceases. Like I said in the beginning of this tirade of mine, I'm proud to know you.
