Poem Artwork

... am i that bad?  i asked the
scream of night.  why do i do
this?  that's when i hear them
snickering under their breath,
the words i should have put
to page.  i turn on the light and
see them, with mockery in
their eyes and on ink stained
mouths.  how dare you call
yourself Poet,
they say in an

accusing tone, how dare you
--- all of the greats are dead
and gone, or soon will be.
who are you? i tremble into
the air, and what do you want
with me?  we are the un.read
and forgotten, the ones who
came after --- we've come to
bury your pen.
i sweat awake
and write myself back to life ....

I think it's natural to doubt our abilities, no matter what it is in life we do. It all comes down to what we feel inside, though. No one can take that away, and we shouldn't give them the power. Love and Hugs,
Sheila

KARLA - VERY WELL PUT!

"STICKS AND STONES MAY BREAK MY BONES - BUT 'WORDS' CAN NEVER HURT ME!"

My best guess is that perhaps other woes - financial, weather, illness - whatever - may bring on periods of depression - these, in turn, cause one to doubt one's own abilities.

When this happens, simply look at your STATS here! Read a couple of Reviews!

Sounds a little like the "blank page syndrome" when the words just won't flow--because of that tendency to measure ourselves by external situations or forces that de-motivate us. Naturally, I'm describing my hangup, but your poem correlated to how I feel.

Well expressed! Good job.

Fondness for you and yours runs deep here- and it is the poet seen in you.
We are of a kind- when struck we bleed words and read the pattern to heal one another.
Bless you.

i agree-you must stop doubting yourself and just enjoy the writing for what it is, not for what is said by others--or not said

Karla,
It's not that I agree or disagree with any of what's been said below, and there are some fine responses, it's that I wish you to go on and on and no matter what the subject in your heart is, let it out, put it down without remorse or fear. We love you!

Karla,I;m going to be honest,I agree with Mark. You have as many readers as the best poets on this site, everyone reads you and loves you. Still you keep seeking assurance, you are fixated on yourself. You need to write on the subjects that made you a fine writer, the weather and many other subjects which you do so well. You have a gift,so be grateful, and stop being in fear that you will go unread.
This is a fine write but the subject is not, since you have been well loved and read for years now,so keep writing the poems that made you a favorite.

Love and hugs,
Eileen.

Sorry, but to this I must say "Bullshit!" Your words are always read and appreciated and, "poet?" What the hell does this word mean but other than one who puts the thoughts from their heart, thoughts from their mind onto, so to speak, paper so we can see and feel the words you put onto, so to speak, paper. Cut it out, Karla! you have lots of people that not only follow what you write but look forward to what you write so lay off the "feel sorry for myself bit!" because you've hundreds of friends here.
Your friend from Southern California, Mark
