... say a prayer for them when you lay your head on the pillow. ...

Sweat-stained clothes. Unwashed
bodies and hair. Many carrying all
they own on shoulders bowed by
the weight of homelessness. Some
had no shoes --- their beautiful feet
calloused and hard. Once I started
hugging them, I could not stop --- I
could not stop. Tears flowed and
mingled, connecting us as one ---
wait until you meet the ones I met
tonight. They blessed me, reminded
me to be grateful for what I do have
--- a roof overhead, food in my belly,
clean clothes, so much more ---
say a prayer when you lay your head
on the pillow. What they would give
to have that one small comfort on
the mean streets where they sleep.
Blessed we are indeed Karla. I have spent some time with street people around Sydney, some are sorry souls but for others it is a lifestyle choice. They are truly amazing people with some of the most extraordinary stories I've ever heard. Your poem blesses them with caring and awareness.
my best regards,
David
I once saw a man asleep on the steps of a big church in Nashville. He was all bundled up in layer upon layer of clothes, but he had no shoes. Your poem brought him back to the forefront of my memory. Rebecca
those you speak of are everywhere in America today Karla - walking the highways and back roads - sitting or standing at intersections seeking food, work - and our government cares only about the plight of illegal immigrants - to be an American out of work, without health care, clothes or shelter today is no concern to the politicians - Americans have become second class citizens in our own nation - what foreign nations are reaching out to these Americans in need? - yes, it is thankful we must be with food in our bellies, shelter and clothing in this perilous time in America - your words and emotions reach deep into our souls and our nation's soul - may joy peace and love be with you my dear friend - Jon Michael
Heart tugging poetry that just reaches down and grabs. Wow, what a life changing experience; suddenly our own struggles seem to be nothing compared to the people we ministered to last night at Beautiful Feet! We are indeed blessed!! And we are grateful for what we DO have! We could be like them ...
Very well penned/imaged! And yes, you do have beautiful feet: beautiful TANNED feet! :)

Lovely reminder about counting our blessings, we don't know why these people were given this plight, just prayer for them and help when you can.
