Turn it OFF, sweetie, turn it OFF.

Can't help for us to go over the edge, right?

All we can do is give what we can. Don't take care of ourselves,
only add to the mayhem.

I love that song in My Fair Lady: "WOUDN't IT be LOVE-er-leeeee."
Number of major disasters lately...started to say it is unbelievable,
but they have always plagued.

Were I Japanese, I would have a terrible time not being bitter.

Isn't it maddening that when we are victimized, we tend to feel
that we must have done something to deserve it? Think it is
because we can't stand to think that there is no rhyme or reason to a lot of things that happen. GOT NO CONTROL. Never did, never will.
So grab your slice of life and run with it.

Remind me I said that next time I bury my head in the sand.

Whatever happened to good guys in white hats and super heroes wearing capes rescuing mankind from every threat and evil? Whatever happened to the frequent display of the peace symbol? Scheming has replaced peaceful planning. Disrespect paves our paths where once tolerance lay. It is enough to tax the morale of the most optimistic of mankind. Do not relent Karla. It is all like a movie, too horrible to believe as a truth or reality. Japan will overcome her difficulites and heal her wounds just like everyone who has faced a disaster before this. The Middle East will one day become united and there will be another disaster that mankind will need to face. It is life, in all of its stark reality, hyped up into doom and gloom by media, looking for an audience, so that they can raise the prices of advertising. We never see the positive stories anymore, the news just keeps getting darker and darker and it seems that we are afraid not to tune in.

Age-old question, Karla, and we're still seeking the answer
to devastations we can't comprehend and can do nothing about.
On a more personal level, aside from the multiple horrors in
Japan today, my thoughts are with my good friend in Tokyo
who writes wonderful poetry. I can only hope that he escaped
the nuclear fallout. Thoughtful write, Karla. -gene.

Japan is in such turmoil that none asked for, God's wrath?? Why? God would not do that! A beautiful island that will be devastated for a very long time and all we can do is pray....

I agree Karla...in Australia we have been swamped by floods(even where I live) and our nearby neighbours New Zealand had that awful Eathquake in Christchurch recently when so many died...what is it all coming to?Your poem is well said and just at the right time...hugs from

i've really pulled back a lot from delving into the news too much lately. not that i want to bury my head in the sand; but just realized that 90% of the news is all bad, i am powerless to do anything about it. i stay informed; but am trying to concentrate on what's right and what's working. and amazingly, my mood changed! i think it's an inside job more than anything else. like the story about the guy who lamented that the world was falling apart. he goes to a doctor and the doctor tells him to always put the cap tightly back on his toothpaste, make his bed and clean the house. 3 weeks later, he returns to the doctor with a totally new outlook on life. the world didn't change, he did.

I TOTALLY AGREE! and Many are saying THE SAME Karla! Why? some have their own ending ideas.... Wars and more are suppose to be in store...My heart has had more than enough too! :(

This is exactly why I don't watch the news. September 11, 2001 started it; I know I can't live in a bubble, but at times I would rather NOT know. Safer that way. God help the people of Japan and all who suffer at the hands of nature, wars, or whatnot! Heartshattering piece; well done!
