whether or not you were actually there
watching the smoke and debris fill the air
or watching the news from your e-z chair
the whole world felt the sadness and despair
"i felt its ashes fall on me"
whether or not you saw it happen live
wondering if anyone would survive
you cringed when you saw those last desperate dive
the whole world felt so angry and deprived
"i felt its ashes fall on me"
whether or not you were missing loved ones
we all felt bereft--mourning had begun
our innocence shattered, destroyed, undone
and the whole world felt incredibly stunned
"i felt its ashes fall on me"

something mari wrote in a review she'd written
has stuck with me...and i felt i had to write a
poem about it...
dedicated to all those that were lost, or who
lost loved ones in the attack of september 11, 2001.
"may we always remember and never forget."
(((HUGS))) and love, karla. :(

karla,
I had not previously viewed this piece...thanks for letting me know it was here. At the time of the event I was working in the Federal Building about 5 blocks from ground zero. I heard the first explosion when the first plane hit...it was not alarming because there is always construction going on in the area...but some one, somewhere had a TV on...and then there was shock...and then panic...and then it was madness...some of us left the building and the streets surrounding the downtoen neighborhood were utter madness...it just something you never forget or get over...the fear...and later the anger...I write about it alot, actually...thank you for this, though...**Mari**

Karla,
This is an outstanding write. I will surely never forget that day. I didn't lose anyone, but seeing it happen was so heartbreaking, I can't even imagine how the ones who lost someone must have felt. What a beautiful tribute write.
Love and hugs,
Janice
