'Should I?!?' was written in a dark period of my life. I didn't think I'd see the way out. But I held on. Thank God.

The answer to that question came to me so strong today. I dedicate it to a friend who's going through a very rough time. Please: pray for her.

'Should I?!?' © 2004, Karla Dorman

should i continue to write
even though
my poems
are
not
very
good?

should i continue to cry
even though i
am told
to
get
over
it?

should i continue to pray
even though
i seek
the
door
remains
closed?

should i continue to love
even though
i feel
unloved
and
all
alone?

should i continue to live
even though
i am
tired
of
the
pain?

should i?  should i?  should i?  should i?

SHOULD I?!?

Response to 'Should I?!?' (For Gill), © 2013, Karla Dorman

You ask, 'Should I continue to write?'
YES.
So what if no one reads what you pen.
So what if they tear down your dreams.
Don't write for THEM.
Write for YOU.
Because you can.

WRITE, ANYWAY.

You ask, 'Should I continue to cry?'
YES.
Tears are a healing balm.
They release stress.
They release pain.
They relieve sadness.
Tears are needed.

CRY, ANYWAY.

You ask, 'Should I continue to pray?'
YES.
How can God answer your prayers
if you don't ask?
How can He bring about miracles
if you don't seek His face?
He loves you, you know.

PRAY, ANYWAY.

You ask, 'Should I continue to love?'
YES.
A thousand times, YES.
There is hope in love.
There is beauty in love.
Look at your children:
They are the definition of 'love.'

LOVE, ANYWAY.

You ask, 'Should I continue to live?'
YES.
YES.
YES.
Things will get better some day.
When?  I don't know.
But:  hope lets ME live another day.

LIVE, ANYWAY.  LIVE, ANYWAY.

I believe that many of us have gone through situations like this, Karla. Hardly a day goes by that I don't pray to God, "Why not today, dear Lord? Why not today?" Very well written, my friend. God bless.

Excellent poetry, Karla, and yes, people need and should be able to read your words! I know I will; you write so eloquently! Very well done!

Hopeful words. I certainly hope that Gill gets to read them.

Stunning wisdom. Medical breakthroughs are happening daily.
Writing does need to be for self (cathartic) not an imaginary audience. Life turns on a dime.
A most erudite poem xx
