1984 carswell air force base fort worth texas had been having trouble with my eyes flashes flares of white light lightning bolts scribbling across my vision i'm severely nearsighted blind as a bat wear thick thick lenses so i can see have since second grade flashings and flares in your vision can signal several problems one of which is a detatched retina to which i'm susceptible anyway because of my extreme nearsightedness one day i was really having problems with the flashes called the doc he said to come in NOW when the air force says do it you do it NOW i go over to the doc he examines my eyes sends me to a specialist the specialist dilates my pupils boiiing they get huge i can't see what little i can see he takes away he about blinds me looking into my eyes with the brightest light i've ever seen now i really am blind the specialist can't find anything wrong asks me if i have migraines yes that is my warning my aura that warns me i'm fixin' to have one a migraine oh i am free to leave but avoid any bright light wear sunglasses 'cause it's sunny out there okay so i leave walking back to my barracks cut through the bx base exchange parking lot it is a lovely spring day bright sunshine blue skies not a cloud to be seen not that i can see anything suddenly i hear AIRMAN sir doyouseemyrank sir airman vidra reports as ordered no sir i am a colonel why didn't you salute me 'cause you're an ass is what i wanna say but i don't don't wanna go to jail HA sir airman vidra reports as ordered i didn't see you sir how am i supposed to see your rank sir whaddaya mean you didn't see my rank got eagles on my shoulders hope they take a dump on ya sir i don't see no eagles sir just got back from the eye doc's he dilated my pupils i can't see a damn thing sir geez louise you mean they're lettin' blind people join the air force yeah just like they let you in ya big jerk
