How soon you forget Defended freedom on distant shores Our veterans, throughout all of the wars How soon you forget Those, that answered, never to return Those, the M.I.A., are THEY your concern How soon you forget Those, names on some memorial wall Is that how their memory is recalled How soon you forget Those, that paid the most terrible price Is that how to repay their sacrifice How soon you forget Those, that had to leave their families So they could fight, so that we could be free How soon you forget Those, that answered, that volunteered to fight Shouldn't be forgotten, it isn't right How soon you forget Those, that came home, wounded, forever scarred While we revere athletes and movie stars How soon you forget Those, homeless, they're living on the streets Why do some of them have nothing to eat How soon you forget Those that served were promised medical care The way that they're treated is a nightmare How soon you forget Those, that are strung out on drugs and booze Those are the ones that make the local news How soon you forget Would you have gone, if called to battle Or would you spout some anti-war prattle How soon you forget Would you burn the flag in front of them Is that how you respect a veteran How soon you forget They fought, they died, for our liberty Because of our veterans, we are free And I will NEVER forget.

What a powerful, powerful write that makes us stop and think. A good write SHOULD cause us to think of the reasons behind its words and the meaning the writer is trying to convey; this write effectively does that in a very profound and meaningful way!
