Deep Fried

I would slather on the oil
Lay out underneath the sun
Usually would fall asleep
Would then overcook (well done)

Deep fried

When I would open my eyes
I was burned deep lobster red
O, the pain, exquisite pain!
The thought of movement brought dread

French fried

Trying to put on my clothes
Was a torture in itself
Think I'll go bra-less today
Idjit--did this to myself

Refried

Broke out the Noxema cream
The joy of cooling relief!!
Promised there'd be no next time
I'd cook like a side of beef

SEARED

I'd forget, get burned again
O, the foolishness of youth!
Nothing could happen to me
Nothing further from the truth

CHAR-broiled

Now look at me--aged skin
And I've got a bunch of moles
I hope I don't get cancer
Education is my goal

NOT fried

I stay out of the sun now
Much as I possibly can
Ain't your life as important
As trying to get a tan

Said, NOT fried

(C) Karla Dorman, 2003.

Is this the time you were in Avalon, NJ, Karla or did that memory trigger this poem. I liked this one alot, it was fun and gave a message not to be ignored...But everyone still goes out on the beach some I have seen in the 70s and older, dark as night and desiring more tan...but it is our choice. As a kid living at the beach, I was almost black, even though I had had blonde hair and fair skin. I remember my mom pulling down my bathing suit and showing off the difference between my lily white butt (always embarrased me) and the rest of my bod with the dark tan! Thanks for posting a fun memory nonetheless, for me, Ed & Rufuz

Karla: You're great at writing humor and also conveying a very important message about the dangers of excessive suntanning. I've got moles on my shoulder caused by a bad, bad burn. Hoping I don't get skin cancer someday. Excellent write!!! Love, Susan

My friend has just gone in for skin cancer treatments after years of water skiing. He's scared! If he only had your poem earlier. Thanks, Karla

(((Karla)))

And while we are on that note, you neglected to mention CAJUN BLACKENED! OW! PAIN LINES! makes me HURT just THINKIN' about it! *CRINGE* LOL

Still, a very informative and cautionary write about the dangers of the sun! A subject that needs to be addressed, and you did just that in this poem! Well done!

(((HUGS))) and much love, your twin, Karen Lynn. :(

I like refried the best! Funny, yet so true, Karla, about the dangers of the sun. I've done the same thing. Ain't we smart!
