This is mushy, mushy, mushy! Sorry. (I'm looking at his photo while I write it!)

Hello, little fellow

You’re a baby still

A beauty too

But all babies are

And I’m biased

I think about your future

What’s in store

Wish I had some control

Over it

When I see how little

Control I do have

At least you live

In a great country

Still one of the best, I think

You have a devoted

Mom and dad

There are very good schools

And colleges for you to attend

Good teachers still

There are many churches

In your city peopled

With good hearts and souls

Those two words are

Important. To me, anyway

Wish I could see you grow

Every single day but I can’t

But I can, of course, see you

Every now and then...

You see, when you’re all

Grown and can truly see,

Can reason, I suspect you won’t

See me. I’ll be elsewhere

But not unhappy

Maybe I’ll be watching you

Like in the song

Who knows? God knows

I love you

Just the way you are

And I'd like always to protect you

Of course I can’t, but He can

I hope you’ll believe on Him

When you’re able

And that your grand life will be,

My little fellow,

Simply everlasting.

What more can anyone ask of a grandchild. One of mine is already in trouble is 21 and learned his lesson I hope. He is a headache to his Mother but she stands by him and hopes for the best. Our boy is loved whatever. There is one in every family I am told. At least in a big family like ours. I always get a hug from him anyway still.

Your poem has brought me joy and sadness.
Sadness, because you can only see him once in a while.
Joy ~ you have begun to share your life and love with him through a wonderful poem - that was meant JUST for him.

I'll bet when he gets older, he'll understand [more completely] the love you have for him and treasure it as only he can.

Blessings to you,
Kathy

I don't think this is mushy, Randall. I found this to be a sincere and hopeful poem especially with that lack of control you are talking about.

Patriarchal poetry runs deep in this bloodline. A grandson is only as good as his grandad - and so - this boy will make it just fine through life...you're a fine man, Randall. You can instill your wisdom and knowledge through hand-written letters and via computer. Scrapbook with photos tilted, gummed picture corners to chronicle his growing years with your catch-phrase captions...it's not too early to start with Grandson Poem...Blessed Be.

Love,
Sage

A beautiful write straight from the heart, very touching, our grandchildren have a way of melting our hearts! It's amazing how we can overlook much of their mischief the same antics that we didn't overlook of our own children....enjoyed this much!
Blessings,
Joyce B.

Great write Grandpa, it is allowed to be mushy, because what you are looking at is one of the seed that came from yourself tree.
