I was excited
about going
to the funeral.
To see her face,
of course,
though static.
I'd been told
of her great beauty.
Auntie, who was
a cousin of the deceased
and first-rate admirer
of beauty in the flesh,
had told me everything--
how this cousin had
GOTTEN AWAY--
the results of her
marriages to men of rank,
in service to our country.
The death was early,
actually. Auntie implied
that that was a result
of fast-track living. I took
all this and more in.
Poor auntie.
She had no inkling
as to what lay in store
for her own life--
her own fast-track
living. But then,
