We don't mind collecting them again and again for we want to see and feel...

Originally a fancy cake or cookie tin,
our round button box sits serenely
on the sewing table when not on top
of the chiffonier. There's an endless,
fascinating array of colors inside it.
Every time our small hands pry it
open buttons spill north, east, south
and west. We don't mind collecting
them again and again for we want
to see and feel all those varied colors,
shapes, sizes and materials. We
are untiring as we laugh and comment
on the funny-looking ones. On the
outside, the box and lid are white
with thick, ornate gold trim. On the
inside it's bright gold only. The shine
simulates gilt and makes us think
of elegant furnishings and fixtures
in places like the Vatican whenever
it is shown on TV. We feel safe and
secure having all those buttons.
Each year we find more in the tin
so we know we'll never run out
nor have our buttons sewn on by
haphazard, unsafe hands that are
unfamiliar.

We use stories at our house.

At night on the weekends
Snug in the beds.
We tell the amazing stories
That pop into our heads.

That's the story time,
We laugh and we cry,
As the knights wield the swords
And the dragons fly by

We become princess' and prince
At my house before sleep
We are astronauts on the moon
And we let those thoughts creep.

LOL just kidding. Really though we do use stories at our houses.
It took my daughter a little coaching when she was three to get her to come up with something but now she is AMAZING! she can come up with anything. I am currently coaching my son now, he is not as big on the imagination yet.
I should write some of their stories down on here before they are all forgotten.

Randall I myself picked up those many brightly colored buttons and pretended each represented a special dream to be searched out and fulfilled. Thankyou for the memory.

How nice! This reminds me of the box of buttons that my mother-in-law has. I have also bought a box too from a garage sale. Yes, it still fascinate me very much to look inside the boxes, to see all those different colours, different shapes, each one seem to tell a story of a jacket of shirt or clothes that's once been worn.

Very interesting indeed!
