Horizons of Darkness & Light
Art thou a rose, running along
Some invisible trelis upon
Which I climb?
Will thy thorns clip mine skin,
Make me bleed red
As mine heart breaks in two?
Yet, how does such an empty
Shell ooze with sorrow when
There is nothing of which to fill
It up with? Time is nothing,
To this soul which travels
Within this corporeal vessel,
As life is whittled into some
Form of blank satisfaction.
Why must I feel things
So differently from the populace?
Am I truly nothing in this world,
Staggering along at some slow pace
Only to be left behind within
A moment’s time?
Let me rest, please, I beg of thee!
This haphazard path we seek,
It twists and winds through
Blind curves mixed with underbrush.
Day mixes with night in
A vibrant liquid fashion, with hues
That transcend all others
And the eye cannot comprehend.
Look now, there on the horizon,
There is rain on the headlands,
A giant walk of darkness full
Of thundrous clouds that clash
Upon the changing temperatures.
Is it wise to seek shelter now,
Or tread on, without a care?
Tell me, please, I beg of thee,
Doest thy care about me?
Or am I just some plaything
To pass the time, wile away
The hours of the day until
One fateful moment, thy quickly
Bores of me?
If that is so, then please,
Let me walk off into the rains
That hover on the horizon,
Lost to the darkness in the light.
