Delusional Unrest

Not sure if I have this in the proper category ... As for references, Sanctum Sanctorum by The Damned 1984 Phantasmagoria album/Data from Star Trek

As the clock ticks away the minutes,
I sit, late at night, and contemplate.

"I know it's late and I should go to
bed. But I can't tear away, from the
night." Echoes in my head. Yet, no
CD spins ...

I fight back the tears that threaten
to ever overflow the dam I've built
lately. If only I could turn off these
emotions ... oh to be Data! Now, that
would be convenient. Too much Damned
played on the stereo, and too much
Trek watched on the tele over the years.

I walk for miles in my mind, alone
most of the time. Yet, sometimes,
I find myself with company. Is that
really your voice I hear coming through
the fog? I'm dreaming again, lost and
alone. This is my lot in life, or so
it seems.

I weep, finally. Release of tears held
within ...

Why do I think that there is some soul
out there I could have possibly touched
in my lifetime! Such a stupid thing
to think. Yet, still I do for I feel
too much. Perhaps, I am delusional.

I want to believe! Lost in my dreams,
that's where I long to be. Where such
images of happiness can wash freely
over me. Let me lose myself in such
fantasies! Alas, reality bubbles up
from the murky depths below these feet.

I struggle, heart against mind. Is this
anarchy? It couldn't be, for there are
laws at work here. Nature's laws ...

Now, here's a thought! Anarchy in
Nature! What would Darwin think ...
Though, there are some pretty whacked
images that float around inside my
mind after this thought.

I want to reach out! Yet, I'm scared,
terrified like a small child. What
makes me think I could touch another
soul ... I'm just delusional.

But I do wonder ... if only I could
receive a sign, one to lift the shadows
of doubt from my mind! There is only
one who can answer this plea ... but
I'm afraid he's only a dream.

But, I ask, prove me wrong.

He floats on wings of doves, high above
and shining down. Perhaps it is merely
the stars that shine so bright. This
picture painted by Nature, her laws and
hindsight ... if only I could walk a
moment in her shoes. Alas, wreck havoc
I would.

Let me gaze up at those stars, little
diamonds in the sky. Beauties they are,
like souls far above. If only I could
build a ladder and touch them all!

But, there is one star that outshines
them all. Gossamer wings and all.

Oh damn these laws of Nature!
Let me take flight and soar up there!
Let me touch the stars at night!

The ticking of the clock ... incessant
it is. Tick tock, tick tock ...

Again, in refrain ...

But I do wonder ... if only I could
receive a sign, one to lift the shadows
of doubt from my mind! There is only
one who can answer this plea ... but
I'm afraid he's only a dream.

But, I ask, prove me wrong.

Very much enjoyed this one.

My favorite:
"Let me gaze up at those stars, little
diamonds in the sky. Beauties they are,
like souls far above. If only I could
build a ladder and touch them all!"
