I wrote this in response to a message board post asking for a definition of "masculinity".
It certainly is not the nature of having a penis.
That would just make one a dick.
It isn't the level of testosterone in the body.
That would just make one a prick.
It couldn't be the imbedded thrill of the hunt.
That would just make one a killer.
It can't be the machismo or the dance moves.
That would leave you to be less than a thriller.
Can it be the strong muscular arms,
That at our discretion would rather hug than crush?
Can it be the trim and limber legs,
That can run love's race and desire to rush?
Can it be the bold eyes and face
That have seen many years, wise beyond guess?
Can it be the deep tenor voice
That makes his lover wish to confess?
I'd like to think,
For I am a man;
A husband, a father,
A lover, a brother,
A friend, to the end,
That I could hope to be defined as
Masculine.
