Give it a moments thought, when we partake in slaughter human or otherwise.

The sanctity of life!

Of the many things, that gives me much grief

Is the term, the sanctity of human life

As if all others were meant to be brief

When killed by gun or knife

Wherefrom springs such assumptions and belief

Where do I have to look to find such odious tripe?

That gives others that not like us, such grief

Which Gods do I need to bribe

Such sanctimonious cliché I always hear

They’re just here for our use

They’re not like us my dear

Ourselves we do abuse

Forgetting all the while for convenience sake

It is ourselves we do abuse

Our own convenient logic bake

We have Gods gift to choose

Give it eyes and ears and add a name

Stand it up and touch its soul

Or would we be like Cain

See it not a being, whole

Just because it is bereft, of logic such as ours

It is not of love and soul

It spends days and night and hours

To keep its young ones whole

No less the life it lives than ours

No less its feelings too

But not like us, before the lord in fear it cowers

It knows its soul is true !

Brava!!!! Well said! The human race is the only one that kills itself! And so egotistical to think they are the only thing that matters!!!

Well said and so very true but I cannot help but wonder how much do we really value the "sanctity of life"?

Be safe,
Karen

I love your last stanza, my friend, and I couldn't agree more. I just wish many more felt the same.

Elitest powers speak with made up pompous sayings that foolish followers accept and copy by rote. We have to learn to ignore them
or be constanly frusrated! Excellent poem!
