You meet the strangest people in the woods, I swear it was a leprechaun!

 Talking to the birds!

There among the trees stood I,
Talking to the birds,
Little lovers to my hand would fly,
Come back and forth in spurts,

This be very early morn,
Laden heavy, trees with snow,
All is lonesome and forlorn,
Quietly, the wind did blow,

The love, and happiness within my
I felt privileged to share,
With little creatures that took part,
Knew me well, that I did care,

Little peg leg, and angel face,
I know them all by name,
Come to my hand, as in a race,
Like all of them were tame,

And as I talk to them, cooing all the while,
Alone among the trees,
Like lovers do, their lover to beguile,
And left alone in peace,

And as we were in happy talk,
Little did I know?
A man there stood, as quiet as a stalk,
As quiet as a man of snow,

Green, as a leprechaun, was his dress,
Smiling to beat all hell,
Holding laughter in distress,
Mirth beguiled him, I could tell,

Not ten feet away, he stood,
His eyes a twinkle,
For a moment, disappear I would,
With a fairies tinkle,

Embarrassed I did glow, in colours pink and red,
No explanations could I make,
He now finally talked instead,
Came here for my early coffee break,

I see he said, you do have quite a relationship,
Could not help but watch, and listen,
From his coffee took another sip,
Just missed the hugs and kissin,

Finally I collect myself and said,
This is sort of early morn,
Most people still in bed,
Instead the woods forlorn,

He than stepped forward from the tree,
Held out his hand in friendly gesture,
I’m professor of biology,
And this was quite a lecture,

Relieved by his kind remark,
We parted ways,
Him to university, and I into the park,
But the mirth, with me it stays.

Why this is just adorably innocent and could almost see you there among all the birds, conversing happily....

Be always safe,
Karen

What a glorious story you have shared in this poem, along with a moral. I, too, speak, warble, and chirp with my backyard birds; they are a most welcoming beginning of my day. Sounds as though you began a new friendship...with the professor

Maybe he wasn't a professor, maybe he was Him being pleased that you talked and too care of His feathered creations.
But by all means...keep the stories coming.
