I second the emotion. I never gave this issue much thought until we owned my first pet, a cat named Fussi. I found out to my amazement that she had a personality and thoughts. She became the smartest person in our house and taught me a lot. When Fussi died at 20 years of age, I cried. I still miss her.

All of these places should have been put out of business years ago, yet they are still operating. A travesty to say the least! One can only pray that this practice too will be finally stopped. Part of the problem is animals of all kinds do not get to march on Captiol Hill with a suitcase full of money....

We have become desensitized!

We see mangled dogs in the aftermath of dog fights.

We see slashed and raped women and young girls, in the aftermath of Dark movies, and real-life TV reports.

We see horrific flooding and destruction, of property and lives, because the *leaders* made wrong decisions.

We see babies having babies, the latter beaten to death by the mother or the *daddy* boyfriend.
We see young ones killed in drive-by-shooting.
We see young and old being blown apart by "heaven-seekers".
We see all the depravations of mankind...every day, every night; if not from TV, or radio, then on our computers.
Then we expect our local police, state police, fed police, and Armed Forces to solve the problems...with their hands tied behind them. We limit great organizations that would help, but for lack of funds.
I don't profess to know the answers...BUT I would think by HELPING THOSE who we expect to HELP US...that is a beginning.
Phew...early morning, and I'm already on my soap box...and nearly forgot to THANK YOU, J-H for your poem, and for caring!

Has cruelty become a sport?

It has become not only a sport, but an accepted way of life, for far too many human beings. And our children are very horrifically learning from us. I just read about a group of young girls who doused a tiny kitten with lighter fluid and set it ablaze. Why? They were bored, and they said they knew no one would care.

Oh, I think that quite a lot of people are listening ... and never doing anything about it. A bit like the "outside" people mentioned by Georg. Little children are sometimes innocently cruel, but adults do not have that excuse. Good work, Jasmin!

Once, a dementia patient asked his doctor how come he, a "no normal" one that never hurt a fly was inside, while the "normal" ones went on a cruelty rampage without anybody reacting on the outside?
"Because you are crazy" the good doctor said.
"And they are not?" the patient retorted.

Oh, Jasmin, you write of their plight with such a caring heart. Hopefully, humans will 'turn the tide,' and embrace all God's creatures with more kindness than is shown by some.
