For Mother Earth Day!

Treasuring paradise!

Early morning light upon that spot,
Where time stands still,
In awe with God,

All the little ones up and about,
The tiniest squeaker,
For food does shout,

Happy that I’ve been granted such lovely chore,
To give a little extra happiness,
For all them I adore,

Pine trees tall, that were once small,
Apples, walnuts, roses too,
A menagerie of one big stall,

Bumblebees my favourite crew,
Humming while they work,
Of course I love little chickadees, and ladybugs too,

Chipmunks, squirrels, black and red,
Dragonflies, and butterflies,
What would you have instead?

Fountains and watering holes for them to drink,
I have four or five,
Everything but the kitchen sink,

Of course there are veggies and grapes,
And many herbs,
No, besides me, there are no apes,

All this in the middle of a bustling city,
On a quarter acre lot,
A tiny little house, but pretty,

Twenty years past when first I’d seen,
There was nothing,
Bare, just grass and a mowing machine,

Oh, much work, of shovelling and arranging,
And much loving care,
To a paradise this place was changing,

My new young neighbour paid a visit,
She did not want to leave,
To keep her longer would’ve been illicit,

She said I can imagine you have elves and fairies,
Playing here at night,
I said little, for the sound it carries,

This is not a garden, but a sanctuary,
In reverend tone aghast,
Said she,

I’ve raised many little creatures,
Gave them house and home,
And know all their special features,

For this I’m most thankful to the Great Spirit,
Allowed me to work in his creation,
And to return with thanks, bit by bit,

Until that time, when I’m no more,
Will toil with happiness and joy,
More favours for my friends will store,

Until then, there among the shaded path of ancient stone,
Footprints of fossils rare, of long ago,
Barefoot I walk, with mother earth alone,

Beautiful home of nature you have there, Jasmin, lots of work, lots of rewards. The whole poem and your last lines imply rare respect for the creation. Very lovely and lovingly done...Jerry

P.S. I'll be back to your den very shortly. I'm on a tight schedule out signing.

This sounds like my home, too, J-H! We give, but get so much more in doing so. Love this poem and its implications: helping to save God's creatures and flora. I want to believe there is a better future for our Earth! If we can stop the greed...a non-revolutionary reform!
Beautifully penned, sir!
Blessings and Love ~~ Micke

Walking barefoot on Mother Earth, treasuring Her paradise, and providing compassion and sanctuary to Her many children - if only we all could do the same, what a marvelous world this could be.

Paradise as it should be, fearless bare foot walking without fearing neither a thorn nor hurting a little creature among the grass.
Shouldn't that paradise go over its borders, over the horizont until meets itself after covering mother earth all over again?
Are we not worth of a little of Paradise ourselves? here? now?
