*Should we light the Christmas tree?* *For all our opulence to see,* *Should we,* *Yes I know, your faith and love you want to show,* *How about first letting it grow,* *Into love,* *Love your neighbour as yourself,* *Playing little Christmas elf,* *Giving,* *To all those millions that alone,* *Without food without a home,* *Shouldn’t we?* *To all those children in the world,* *In no loving arms are curled,* *Millions,* *To all those on our streets and gutters,* *With them that no one bothers,* *The least,* *To all those little creatures so forgotten,* *Their paths in life of pain been trodden,* *The very least,* *Was that his message, was it not?* *Love your neighbour on the spot,* *Do it now,* *Lost in all that glitter and that glory,* *Is his message, is his story?* *Give today,* *He did not come to see Christmas lights,* *Not matter how beautiful the sights,* *His message,* *Love your neighbour is his story,* *Do that for me, do not bore me,* *With glitter,* *For every bulb and every light,* *And the cost to make them bright,* *Hold a candle,* *Shine a light to all those suffering now,* *A bowl of rice for all, a Christmas chow,* *Give a gift,* *Not won the battle, not by far,* *Put a penny in the beggars jar,* *A penny a bulb,* *All that tumult all the buying, gold and silver gifts,* *Neither mine, nor starving spirits lifts,* *That way,* *Go and celebrate my coming, and my going,* *With your deeds my seeds are sowing,* *Celebrate,* *And then when all my work you’ve done,* *Instilled my soul in everyone,* *Celebrate,* *If all in our society,* *Afford a noble Christmas tree,* *Celebrate,* *Then and only then, as it should be,* *Celebrate and light a tree,* *Honestly,*

"...a penny a bulb..." in a energy faltering world cities are using huge amounts of money in hundred of thousends of little bulbs, a penny a bulb, which could give many homeless, sick, alone people a little of our family warmth.

You are right that Christmas is a time for sharing, but so is the rest of the year too. We make fruit baskets with Spring goodies in Spring and pass them around, make fruit baskets from our backyard garden about mid summer and pass those around and now at Christmas time we make more fruit basket adding a few extra goodies and pass those around. All baskets are given out not just to friends and acquaintances, but most are just handed out to people we pass when we are out and about. Each year the list grows and this year we averaged between 67 and 72 baskets in total. Yes, I put up our tree and outside decorations and all is lighted each evening. Sometimes we even give out little goodies to the children who get off the school bus that stops right in front of our house when we are home. Of course we ask the children to bring the few goodies home to share with their families. We also give to many charities of our choosing, most of which deal with animals, education and historical sites for future people to learn and enjoy. Don't tell any one but I'm not putting up a Christmas tree. I'll enjoy the one at my granddaughters and that will be fine with me. I'm happy with Christmas and I'll just keep trying to be nice to others. I struggle a bit. Excellent write. Liz
