Dark and sombre these embers lay,
Buried in grieving hearts,
And darkened souls,
Dark cloth covers the skeletons,
Row on row kneeing praying,
Streaks of misty colours wash their tears,
Knights and saints and prayer psalms,
Broken in red and blue and green,
Their gaunt and faces light,
Of stain glass windows broken sheen,
A crying weeping soul, a cough restraint,
Stirring awkward mills of bones and flesh,
Silence now, the priest in golden robe,
He speaks, silence in their heart now seeps,
But then a cry of hurtful pain,
Of wailing song, crying in despair again,
Weeping eyes and chants of Latin phrases,
Nourishments of scriptures words,
Hollow faces listening to oppressive silence,
The longing of empty hearts,
Sculpted agony where no one stirs,
The daisy’s on the coffins polished lustre,
Next to candles consuming their waxen staff,
Consumed by life, death has come,
All is quiet, sails fluttering in the wind no more,
The dead eye slack, like the quiet ocean,
The tide has gone out taken another body,
February the month of death it seems,
Of sombre and dark suits,
Fifty two she was, and no more strength,
Suffering her life’s fate,
A last wish to her loved one, ones,
A quivering hollow sweet voice, a friend,
Bring me a daisy, a daisy; bring me a daisy a day,
Gently voices join shy of tone and timber,
Poignant the daisy’s on her coffin,
Quietly there they lay, as she, gone broken,
Lovers they were to the end,
The husband sobbing,
And now the children,
Tears stuck in my throat,
I stopped singing,
Poignant silence,
A daisy clutched in my hand,
A blessing as she passed,
A last good bye,
God bless her,
Good bye Ann.

A heartbreaking write. Death is something difficult to understand, but a part of life. I'm sorry for your loss.
