Samuel Shape sent a serious shock to slavery and di slaver
Mek di system shook, mek it shake mek it sever
Samuel Shape seh before I be a slave any longer

Samuel Shape sent a serious shock to slavery and di slaver

Mek di system shook, mek it shake mek it sever

Samuel Shape seh before I be a slave any longer

I rather be a martyr on the gallows over yonder 

 

Verse 1

Daddy Sharpe had a vision, Samuel Shape had a plan

To bring about full-fledged emancipation

So all Africans would get pay fi work pon di plantation

Plan A was to get liberation by peaceful demonstration

Wi would withdraw work until wi win wages yes, renemeration

He mobilized Africans in St. Bess, St. James, Hanover & Westmoreland

The most of the west was apart of his plan

So listen and yu will here more bout di Western Revolution

 

Verse 2

The Gideon kick off 1831 Tuesday di 28th of December

When daddy Sharpe and his followers decided fi cease slave labour

A peaceful resolution was his desire

But a fed up woman set Kensington pon fire

Di revolution fire spread from Catadupa to Black River

Plantation all over the west were on fire

Fire inna Cambridge, Greenwich and Sevens River

Fire inna Lapland, Marchmount and Montpelier

 

Verse 3

 

Robert Gardner& George Taylor  were a leaders in the revolutionary army

So were Mr. Linton, Thomas, Dove and Mr. Dehaney

Over forty thousand other person were in the war for liberty

Many many African man, woman, and pickeney

And wi would a win if di Maroons neva help di military

Just like wid Paul Bougle and Daddy Tacky

Freedom fighters lived, fought and died fi free all a wi

So in Nanny a di Mother Fi free Jamaica, Den Samuel Sharpe a di Daddy
