When cars speed

I watch the children happily at play
From my window on the hill
And I'd love to go and play with them
But I know I never will

But their happiness, it helps me so
As I lay upon this bed
And I look at where my legs should be
And the drips through which i'm fed

Three long years, since I've been here
As a boy of only ten
When the driver stopped to take a look
And then sped off again

But the people here are kind to me
And they help me all they can
But I wonder will I need their help
When I grow to be a man?

Now the nurse's say the angels guard me
So no harm will come my way
And I just can't help but wonder why
They weren't with me on that day?

But i'll go to sleep and dream again
Of a place where all is glee
Where I meet the other children there
And we play so happily
