Open doors...shutters flying

I drove down a dirt road of dreams,
wind was blowing all around me
An old farm house stood silently,
all the doors open...shutters flying

A grin came over my face,
as I envisioned you laughing
You were luminous and lucent,
standing in that doorway,
now abandoned to the wind,
where dirt and sand blows in

An oldie plays on the radio,
I guess I was daydreaming

You standing there smiling so pretty,
wearing bellbottom jeans and barefooted
A girl without a purpose,
it struck me like a blue streak
You and I were lightning
and thunder was the sound we made

As I drive by I couldn't help it,
I slammed on the brakes and drove in

I guess I thought you'd be there
but of course not, I laughed out loud
vanishing into the house, whistling,
like some ghost was gonna jump out

In a way that was true , you'd vanished
long ago, we never said goodbye

There's always open doors...shutters flying

I turned around and drove off,
just like I had all those years past,
lost in a trance, your image smiles back,
I watch you dance in my mind, barefooted

This poem would make a great song.
It really dances and has a great beat to it, there's a little tune to it, too.
I can see you and her in that barn. This poem is Superb!!.
Lost in a trance, your image smiles back, I watch you dance in my mind, barefooted...
This poem really keeps the innocence alive and felt.
Thank You, I love it!. (c:)

This is a beauty, Dale. I have been thinking a lot about "back in the day" and someone I'll never forget, and here I am in your daydream. I wonder if he still thinks of me that way? Memories do haunt us..

I can't tell you what this does for an English girl like me - save to say it is like some great Deep Southern film come to life for me; so inspirational, so enigmatic, so dreamlike - but also so vivid and real. You have managed to combine the very true levels on which our day to day lives are lived out: that heady mix of reality and fantasy. I find this intoxicating and piquant and part of my fabric somehow - even though I am a continent away in the pastoral green countyside of England's South West. Like your own memory, this image leaps off the page to linger in the minds of all who absorb it, I am sure. A masterfully crafted write, Dale, achieving such enduring substance with such ease and relaxed (seeming) simplicity. "Open doors... shutters flying" is a great poetic epithet which paints the whole canvas of life. And "You and I were lightning and thunder was the sound we made" is unforgettable. TY and am keeping to return to! Kate xx

Dale Dale Dale, this takes you there. OPEN DOORS has so many good lines and images, to list them all I might as well copy/paste the whole thing, but the line:

You and I were lightning
and thunder was the sound we made

just kinda knocked the wind outta me.

This is utterly beautiful.
