Once upon a time it was a Saturday night and on the boulevard we rambled until the moon took us to it's hiding place where lovers played at midnight I guess that was so long ago I couldn't find the way back but maybe if I'd watch the moon she'd show me once again
Then came the dawn, could we face it together as we drive on the deserted streets and boulevard it gives all new meaning to the word loneliness So we need Sunday morning and the flowers bloomin to ring the bells and chimes for worshipers to find
the ramblers and sinners to repent, then go home again
We await another Saturday night to star all over again
the moon will shine tonight
So once upon a time there was a Monday... the sun shone into our eyes and blinded we revealed our true selves to be as lonely as the freeway traffic which never ends but leaves you with a hollowness our souls need redemption, but first comes celebration
Americana, pure, true and plaintive. This reminds me of my younger days in the 70's. Reads like the opening to a novel, and in truth would make a great story!
Dale it is so true that those saturday nights turn to monday blues all too soon. You're delving into the why's and wherefores and it's aways full of mystery...excellent poem!
This is deep and soul-searching, Dale, and the unique style you adopt here is very fitting for the kind of "not quite sure what I'm lookin for" kinda questing that we do so much of at times in our lives. Your writes always remind me of the vast open spaces and are so full of a dusty kind of atmosphere that is very evocative. I am listening to the new queen of country rock as I read this: Gina Villalobos - and it fits perfectly - as it would have your other stunning write: "Open doors... shutters flying". I think you could easily write screenplay: you capture mood and place perfectly. Your writing seems so grounded and yet intriguingly enigmatic. You leave me always wanting to know more about the slices of life you depict. An interesting portrait of the less than satifying cycle of unfulfilled celebration and redemption. Excellent, thank you.
