this is very descriptive. this made me think of Route 66. I could see the neon lights of Desolation Cafe blinking. This captures the heart of the Southwest and West. It had a touch of Frost and a touch of Steinback. well crafted.

Very fine, Dale. I can see a rusty metal sign with the word, "Desolation Cafe" in faded letters swinging on a chain in the wind. You have a talent for writing "place" peices. A slice of American pie with a cup of joe, and "last chance" could be metaphor with many meanings. Guess that's why the film industry has mined this theme for all it's worth. These lonely places reflect our character and restlessness...

I know this place, when I used to travel by car from Jersey to Illinois,there were many desolation cafe's! Fantastic imagery Dale! You nailed this one!
