Hollow Eyes

Eyes that look inward,
into the soul

Their hollow faces
show no emotion,
only their grim determination

The stone houses
of some ancient mold

The empty streets
greet not a soul,
but paint ominous clouds

They drift overhead
to cover the sun

The rain that falls,
is hot and fiery,
burns up their memory

Eyes of lost souls
now only ghosts

The ancient ones
painted upon our faces,
now drift so aimlessly

This is chilling and yet beautiful, Dale. Soulful in its "soulessness" somehow, if that makes sense. That's how it speaks to me, at least. It inspires the idea that there is a malnutrition of the spirit going on, rather than a deliberate or malicious macabre activity. Sad and touching, and the title fits really well. This is a kind of blindness we can all experience from time to time, perhaps, and is one that is often self-induced. I could be way off beam here... I'm half asleep! Wonderful collab with Linda, too. TY for both. LOL Kate xx

Sad, and I think the mood of the day also adds to that- well-written.

Eyes of the gods of centuries past. The shadow of civilizations long gone. Whatever one's view of their religions, it was part of the ancient's daily lives in ritual and thought. Something for us to ponder in our modern day culture(a culture that may well be defunct someday, itself). The images this conjures!
