In a Mexican Sky
In a Mexican sky
are the solitary eyes
of the silent desert
The dust shall rise
just as dawn arrives,
another tequila sunrise
So wash away your tears
which fell last night,
forget your fears
of the coming sunlight
A mariachi band plays
on the sidewalks
The dusty streets are bare
as the night closes
and day approaches
The stones of another time
when the Aztecs ruled
where the ancient ones arose
the blood stained ruins
In the Mexican sky
across the Sierra Madres,
the wind carries the stones
The peasants who lived and died
to build the pyramids,
to traverse universal solitude
They had traveled to the sea
to lie on white sandy beaches,
listening to ocean waves
pound their shores
They cross the high desert
in a sun stroked mirage
that rolled into the mountains
in orange hues
The desert tells the tales
of the ancient trails
where these souls are entombed
Colors reflect the solitary eyes
In a Mexican sky
