Wild Blue Lonesome
We came in with the dust
Reaped a whirlwind
Going down rural roads
The devils in the fields
dancing demons in our eyes
but stopping dead at the hills
The wild blue lonesome
The hills were silent in the night
as darkness crept upon us
We could see lights in the distance
Our eyes were filled with devils
as the demons danced in the dust
The stars enhanced our loneliness
The moon sprinkled us with silver
Silver was lost in the wild trees
and throated in the hoot owl
Our voices hung in midair
among those faraway stars
Distant lights brought us
back down to barbwire
and a lone country road
I smelled the breeze
as she floated down to me
She’s my dreaming star
shining brightly on my lonely soul
I gaze into the night sky
our dreams of love and passion
reflect the silver in our eyes
The distance is long
on these lone country roads
Our dreams become tarnished stars
but shine tinseled ribbons
that follow the white line
I'm a doe caught in the headlights
Struck by his lightning, I throw sparks
The singed earth will grow life-
pine, fir and aspen stirring our names
on the wind that winds time
We travel these country roads
in search of love
going round and round
on the wheel of time
We touch down where crop circles
run rings through the corn
crushing the sweetness
feeling only the wild blue lonesome
