Elders’ Circle

Little Moon has a dream
Spotted Dog takes the lead
He soars over the open plains
Coming to a mountain
there is a cave
And Spotted Dog trots in
There lies a bear hibernating
He snorts a bit
Little Moon see’s a distant light
more a glow
Spotted Dog leads on
They come to a fire light
and around the circle are old warriors
They’re smoking a peace pipe
One gestures to Little Moon to sit
He smokes and listens to their tales
He’s told of visions and a seeker
One old warrior looks at him
He says this is the Elders’ Circle
so remember it and pass it on
to the brothers and sisters
so they might know the Great Spirit
awaits and another life lies ahead
You shall return here when you are older
We have much to tell
Spotted Dog who had been laying down
jumped up and headed down the corridor
Little Moon could see the paintings
Upon the wall he’s spots a half moon
and a full moon casting different shadows
He is greatly honored
He had visited the Elders’ Circle

Sounds like the start of a saga to me :). So many meanings come to mind in the symbolism imaged here. One image in particular, the one of the half-moon and full moon--suggests to me the annilation and dissimilation of native peoples who will be made whole once again as has been foretold in visions. Oh do continue the writing of this story, Dale. Very fine!

Through the Amazon by S. Oliver Eldridge

The drug called "The Shari" has been used for vision quests over many years. But, when all the rivers start drying up, the tribe must send a young hunter named Tomás on a much more important trip through the Amazon.
