Smoke Signals

A clear summers morning
The smoke rises to the sky
Rings form in the blue
Signals for a pow wow

We gather round
a circle of fire
The smoke signals visions

We smoke the peace pipe
to bless us with the buffalo
So we look in four directions
North, South, East, West

The visions of the sun
We perspire and are hot
A lovely breeze whispers

We sit upon the red rocks,
telling tales of long ago
before the white men came

Fractured dreams of horses
with fiery manes
appearing upon the bluff
the wild mustangs are free

Our hearts soar,
like the eagles,
like the hawks,

Man who couldn’t walk
would ride the painted ponies
into the rising sun
across the great divide
A river meanders this way
and the other to find the great sea

Thunder Bird, seeker of visions
has visited with the ancient ones
He is blessed, he shares it
with the people

Smoke signals powerful medicine

A hymn to those "painted ponies" whose spirit so encapsulates the soul of the men who seek to follow in their hoofprints... powerful and healing wisdom indeed. I could smoke this one all day long, Dale... TY hooKah Kate xx (THIS spelling, but of course...!! :))

BEautiful native poetry of the ancient ones... I can relate being part Cherokee......The Native Americans have such a rich culture of worship, respect for earth, and of powerful tales.... This was so enjoyable.

This reads almost like a story, and it takes the reader to the place well, carrying images of Native Americans to those without the knowledge of the culture.

Potent lines that take the reader into the very heart of a people. Appreciate the shared vision in a big way.

Through the Amazon by S. Oliver Eldridge

The drug called "The Shari" has been used for vision quests over many years. But, when all the rivers start drying up, the tribe must send a young hunter named Tomás on a much more important trip through the Amazon.
