I'm in the process of inking another seeker
poem. Hopefully I can get it done soon.
I guess I'd already posted this but well it's
worth a reread I think.

The Seeker

A seekers vision
reveals blue sky like velvet
His dream ally, his spotted dog
leads the seeker to the cave of ancients

An elders circle, the ancients share a pipe
The smoke inhaled, exhaled in deep thought
Their minds now at peace, speak to the seeker
Call together the people to hear our voices

The spirits whisper high above the earth
The eagles soar above the mountain peaks

The buckskin is decorated with past deeds
We take the reins to ride the painted ones
Our minds foresee the hunt for the noble beasts
We eat and are wrapped now in buffalo robes

Clouds float high above us to paint
Pictures on rocky walls to tell the tales
of long ago when we ruled this earth
and lived in unison with its spirit

Spotted dog stretches and then barks
The moon arises to light the way home

Vision seeker returns to speak
with much to say
The people gather listening to the wind
Mother has spoken through the elders

He tells of his sight of the great snow
and the cold brutal nights
He discovered fire to survive
He cooks his bison and chews for life

The elders saw and were glad
The people would rise again

The Great Spirit would watch over us
In the heavens the spirits wait
The light is eternal, its fire bright
No living man can look into it

The elders taught the many truths
that the light should guide us

Seekers vision was one of renewal
The Mother earth shall be revived
The people will walk free upon her
and be pure once more

Ok Dale I have now read this 3x and keeps coming up with a question/statement, me thinks you are "The Seeker"! This is an excellent piece, vision of what once was and still is a rite. Perhaps not in all instances exacting but "wow" closer than many know. Ok I see I am rambling and rambling here, but I can't help it that is what reading this piece has done to me, gots the urge to keep rambling on about it! :0) Ok enough, a pleasure to read!!!!

I believe they did. Well worth a repost, Dale, and I await the next in this fine series.

A sweet, sentimental piece of poetry of days gone by. A time of renewal is yet to appear. Enjoyed this much.

Be safe,
Karen

Truly this is human instinct and you unfold the imagery of the union between Nature, Man and a coming Eden on Earth...so very well!
I love when this happens to me! :) I find myself talking to the spotted one~
Fantastic penning~

This is wonderful narrative, Dale, and the centrifugal visual of that spotted dog is fascinating (interesting... I typed "god" initially "by mistake"!) My mind keeps being drawn to it as significant and symbolic somehow, but don't know why exactly. Wonderful cohesion and sense of anticipation. Will await the next installment with baited breath... not dog breath, hopefully! : )) LOL K xx

Through the Amazon by S. Oliver Eldridge

The drug called "The Shari" has been used for vision quests over many years. But, when all the rivers start drying up, the tribe must send a young hunter named Tomás on a much more important trip through the Amazon.
